The island of Oahu is a tropical paradise for those lucky enough to live here. Newcomers to the island will most likely begin their exploration in the metropolitan area of Honolulu. This is perhaps the most happening place in all of Hawaii's eight major islands. There are more restaurants and attractions than any other area in the region, including the USS Missouri, the Arizona Memorial, and Pearl Harbor. It is additionally the islands' cultural and artistic hub. Honolulu is also the place to find such breathtaking natural wonders such as the Banzai Pipeline and Waikiki Beach, consistently named the "Best Beach in the World". For those who like to live where there's always something going on, Honolulu is the place. There are approximately 371,589 residents living in the city today. The city offers downtown living at its finest, and potential home buyers will have an astonishing array of condominiums and town homes from which to choose. Recent real estate reports indicate that Honolulu offers something for nearly every taste and budget, with town houses ranging from approximately $150,000 to nearly $1,000,000. Condominiums generally range from around $100,000 to well over $2,000,000.
Just outside of Honolulu, but still in Honolulu County, you will find the nearby town of Pearl City, which is home to approximately 40,000 residents. While it is only about ten miles outside of the city center, Pearl City maintains its own unique feel. This peaceful residential neighborhood is home to Pearl City High School, which maintains the largest marching band in the state. A source of great pride, you will often find these young people showing off their skills in the renowned Rose Bowl Parade. Pearl City offers potential home buyers single family detached style homes that range from $200,000 to just under $1,000,000. Condominiums in the area can range from approximately $75,000 to $250,000. In the area known as East Oahu, you will find the community of Kahala. There are only about 10,000 residents living in this charming upscale neighborhood. This is, in fact, one of the most exclusive communities on the island. Noted for its privacy and security, it is often difficult to remember that you are only minutes away from Waikiki Beach. Kahala overlooks the spectacular natural beauty of both Diamond Head and Koko Head craters. Kahala Beach offers a unique focal point to the community. Homes here are elegant residential offerings, and single family homes generally start around $500,000 and may exceed a whopping $20 million. Town homes and condominiums will start at around $400,000 and generally go well above $2,000,000.
Also in the East Oahu area is the neighborhood of Hawaii Kai, with nearly 30,000 residents. Hawaii Kai is a planned community, just twelve miles outside of downtown Honolulu. This community offers its residents resort-style living, with plenty of beaches, golf courses, and tennis courts. A focal point of Hawaii Kai is Hanauma Bay Beach Park. While slightly less expensive than Kahala, Hawaii Kai is another outstanding example of some of the finest living in the islands. Town houses and condominiums here range from around $150,000 to over $1,000,000. Single family homes in Hawaii Kai range from approximately $300,000 to over $12 million. In the area known as the Leeward side of Oahu, you will find the community of Ewa Gentry, with a residential population of just around 15,000. This neighborhood is unique in that is was historically a primary site for sugar cane fields. But this has given way to residential development, and is now one of the fastest growing areas of Oahu. Residents here come from every imaginable background, and Ewa's plentiful new home development is an ideal location for everyone from singles to seniors.
Also on the Leeward side of the island is the community of Kapolei. This community is poised to be the west coast version of Honolulu. Recent development in this area includes major commercial and business developments. With the second-busiest commercial harbor in the region, major business parks, and plentiful residential development, Kapolei is fast becoming a major live-work area.
